Trauma Therapy
Process what happened, so it stops shaping what happens next.
You've probably already talked about it. Maybe more than once. And it still shows up in how you react, who you choose, how hard it is to trust that something good will stay good.
That's not a willpower problem. Unprocessed experiences keep their emotional charge until the brain gets to finish the job.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a therapy approach designed to help your brain fully process a memory that got "stuck" — so it stops feeling as intense, and stops driving how you react in the present. Instead of talking through every detail of what happened, EMDR uses guided eye movements (or similar bilateral stimulation) while you briefly focus on the memory, which helps your brain file it away the way it would have naturally, if it hadn't gotten stuck in the first place. It's one of the most researched approaches for trauma and PTSD.
This includes trauma related to sexual assault or abuse. If that's part of what brought you here, you don't need to explain it in detail before we've even met. We'll go at whatever pace feels right for you.
